Spanish study guide

A small routine for words that stay.

Start with a few useful words. Try to remember them before looking. Come back to them on another day. Here is a practical way to put that into a short study session.

A ten-minute starting routine

This is a suggested routine, not a scientifically established minimum or a promise of fluency.

  1. Review first — four minutes. Try yesterday’s words before revealing their meanings. Give missed words another attempt after a few other cards.
  2. Add a little — three minutes. Choose three to five words you expect to use. Listen and read a short example for each. Reduce new words if reviews are piling up.
  3. Use one — two minutes. Say or write a sentence that fits your day. Check unfamiliar grammar with a trusted reference or teacher.
  4. Plan the return — one minute. Come back tomorrow and use the app’s scheduled reviews. Being familiar with a card today is not the same as recalling it later.
Try it now

Say “water” in Spanish.

Try to answer before opening the card.

Reveal the word and example

agua

Quiero un vaso de agua.

I want a glass of water.

Close the answer. Can you say the word again? In your next session, try it before reopening the card.

Choose words you can use

Start with a situation: ordering a drink, getting home or talking about your day. Learn nouns with their articles and verbs with a short phrase. A sentence helps you notice which meaning you need when a word has more than one.

What the research supports

A review by Dunlosky and colleagues rated practice testing and distributed practice highly across learning situations. That supports trying to recall and spreading study over time; it does not establish that FlashVoc is better than another app.

When vocabulary practice is not enough

Add listening, reading and conversation. Knowing a translation does not by itself teach grammar, listening comprehension or comfortable speaking. Use flashcards to support those activities, and adjust your workload to the reviews you can finish.
